The Society was founded in 1956 as an association of scientific and research workers who are active in chemistry, applied chemistry and technology. It is part of the Engineering Institution of Macedonia and is a memeber of the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS).
Within the Society there divisions: Terminology and nomenclature, Crystallography, Polymers and Education in Chemistry.
The financial sources of the Society are grants from the Ministry of Science and Education of Macedonia but mostly from faculties and universities from Macedonia, as well as some limited company donations.
As part of the celebration of the centenary of IUPAC in 2019, Global Women’s Breakfast will be held on a single day – February 12, 2019.
The Global Women’s Breakfast aims to assist women chemists to expand their network of contacts, both locally and internationally. Women at different stages of their individual careers can inform each other about their career progress, and together explore opportunities, in professional development and in research or teaching horizons. Organizations of all types, e.g., universities, companies, national chemistry societies, government laboratories, and other scientific organizations, as well as individual groups of chemists, are invited to participate. Society of chemist and chemical engineers from Macedonia (SHTM) joins the initiative of IUPAC. Women's breakfast will be organized at the Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Skopje on February 12, 2019.
